where is it and how do we get there?
the wedding will take place at thea's inn in the village of nas, on the island of ikaria in greece.
here's a site with a great guidebook to ikaria (including a bunch of recommended hikes) and trip planning tips:
https://www.ikariaguidebook.com/
there is one flight per day from athens to ikaria and one flight back.
to get there:
buy a roundtrip ticket from wherever you are to athens and back,
spend a night in athens if that makes life easier (diporto is our favorite place to eat, the place right next to this one is great too... more recommendations further down the page)
buy a nonstop roundtrip ticket from athens to ikaria and back,
sample roundtrip ATH <-> JIK
(alternatively, you can take a ferry from pireaus port in athens, but please note - ferries at the tail end of the season are sparse and do not run every day)
we'll arrange a shuttle to nas from the ikaria airport
where do we stay?
if you want to stay in nas (walking distance from the venue) - email or text carmel. if you prefer to stay in armenistis (5-7 min away by car, more of an actual village, with hotels) you can book independently via booking, airbnb, directly contacting the property, etc.
why get married on ikaria?
we always imagined that we would get married in haifa, the city we live in and love. but in this complex time of war, and in light of our wish to bringing our loved ones together from afar, we decided to look for another alternative.
ikaria is an island known for its peaceful and community-oriented way of life, and the exceptionally long lives of its residents. in addition, during the greek war of independence, the island served as a place of exile for opponents of fascism. in general, people on the island like to do things their own way. we choose to get married on ikaria as a symbol to ourselves of health, freedom, and love.
faq
do we need a car on the island?
renting a motorized vehicle is recommended for seeing the sights on the island, so you should consider it if you'll be staying longer. that said, we're arranging a shuttle from the airport to nas village, and the wedding, accommodations in nas, and the beach are walking distance from one another.
what is there to see on ikaria?
nature, very hot springs, archaeology, villages, the mediterranean sea
i want to come but can't, will i be able to watch online?
maybe!
i want to come but can't afford it :(
talk to us and we'll try to help
what about presents?
your presence in our lives is already all we need. if you insist, you can support our honeymoon or rainy day funds or donate to a human rights or humanitarian aid organization of your choice.
what should i wear?
wear whatever brings you joy! if you know what you want to wear, go for it. if you don't, our suggestion is to be colorful, festive and informal, as though you got dressed up for your birthday. suits / formal wear not necessary!
